If you are from the UK the Spanish Canary Island Tenerife conjures up images endless foreign owned bars and clubs lining the seafronts of Los Cristianos & Playa Las Americas.
The first time I visited this island was in 1995. I was with a couple friends hitting the bars on the strips during the day and dancing until we dropped in the various night clubs frequented by 20 somethings at night. To be honest the idea of travelling further than the hotel pool to see what else the island could offer really didn’t cross our mind.
I now have family that live in the north of the island and have since had plenty of reasons to go back but with older a wiser eyes.
Since I have developed my love for photography I now see everything around me differently. This small island off the North West coast of Africa has so much to offer and see. From the dramatic high peaks of Spain’s tallest snow-draped mountain Pico del Teide that dominates the landscape at 3,718m above sea level, to the long stretches of coastal beaches.
Look beyond the British invasion of tattooed and lobster-red tourist frequenting the popular resorts, you will find a refreshingly cultured and civilised island of exceptional diversity.
There is a “patch work quilt” of experiences to enjoy from exploring the black volcanic lava landscapes, to tropical-forest walks and spending your hard earned money in tax free designer stores and electrical goods outlets.
The island is awash with post – modern architecture such as the Auditorio de Tenerife, nestled amongst creaky old buildings in the historic colonial city of Santa Cruz.
As you can will see from my selection of images there are endless possibilities to shoot a variety of situation in my case a mixture of street and landscape.
As with most of my pictures all of these were taken with my trusty Fujifilm X100S.
Really like the shot of the guitar-man walking by the wall, as well as the last two shots! 🙂
